Compact Units Improve Versatility of the MTS Fleet

Flexcom 7

Alongside the performance and price of new of jetting units, weight, size and efficiency are important factors in the purchasing process. At Rioned and sister company Andy Guest Jetters, the development of high-performance compact equipment has been a focus over many years. MTS Cleansing Services Ltd recently took delivery of eight new units that exemplify this idea.

MTS is a family business founded in 1986. Over its 30-year history the company had grown to become one of leading waste management and recycling companies in the UK. Operating a large fleet of over 400 vehicles, MTS employ over 500 skilled staff to service a client base that includes utility companies, local authorities and businesses in the construction, transport and manufacturing sectors.

The company recently purchased four new Rioned Flexcom 7.5 tonne compact jet-vac combination units. Rioned’s rolling manufacturing schedule meant MTS could take delivery within six weeks of placing the order. Designed for single man operation, the units feature a high-performance vacuum pump and suction hose connecting to a 3,000 litre tank for immediate operation. The high-pressure pump configuration includes a hydraulically operated hose reel that pivots 180° for ease of operation, with 100 metres of high-pressure hose. The units also feature ample storage for hoses, CCTV units and for other tools.

Chris Henderson, Sales Director for MTS, explains that a primary reason for purchasing four 7.5t units was that they are much more manoeuvrable than the larger 12 and 14t units: “We’re very pleased with our fleet of new mini-combo units, which we use to carry out essential drain clearance work. They offer great versatility to our customers as they can get into spaces where larger vehicles struggle.”

CCTV drain and sewer condition surveying is another key service that MTS provide for both commercial and domestic clients. The company operate a fleet of fully equipped CCTV units with cameras and equipment to cover pipe and drainage systems up to and including 2000mm diameter. As part of a regular vehicle refresh programme MTS purchased four new fully equipped CCTV units in late 2016.

Andy Guest Jetters supplied the V-PACK 2 Series Stack jetting units, working with vehicle specialist Wilker VCL, who undertook the interior conversions. The stack systems are primarily used to enable the survey to take place without obstruction, but can also be used for clearing blockages if there is risk of flooding or contamination.

The stack jetting systems have been designed specifically for dual purpose CCTV vehicles; offering the same level of performance as conventional units, but occupying half the surface area of standard van-packs, meaning that other equipment, such as CCTV rigs, can be mounted alongside. Separate water tanks are remotely mounted for improved weight distribution and space optimisation.

With a dry weight of only 360KG, the V-PACK 2 Series Stack is one of the lightest machines in its class, with a 24HP diesel engine and triplex plunger pump that produces 3000psi @ 9GPM (200 BAR @ 40LPM) of pressure.

MTS operate a strict policy to restrict the environment impact of their operations. Jackie Hall, Communications Officer, says the new units are playing a part in this: “We use them across a wide range of contracts and they are operating day in day out. These units use a lot less diesel than the larger units, so they are helping reduce our carbon footprint.”
